SEPTEMBER 2023 - Issue 1

Message From our President

Dear Aeros:

September is here. For us road warriors, it's time to get back in the air and attend to business. The nature and frequency of your business travel will influence what type of airlift you choose.   I prefer to be away from home as little as possible so I choose a compressed travel schedule.  Next week, I will meet with nine HOAs in Texas, Florida and New York, visit our office in Virginia Beach, attend a dinner meeting in Toronto, and then some fun times at a car rally in Kelowna. AeroOne arranged my flight schedule,  car service and hotels throughout, and even pre-ordered my preferred catering so I stay healthy.   8 cities, 12 meetings, in 6 days.  The rest of September is now free for me to enjoy the last vestiges of Summer with family at our Pender Island home. Come October, it starts all over again with meetings in KSDL, OKC, FTW and ORF.  Each flight on my Learjet will be direct, point to point.   Estimated total travel time for the 6 day mission is 17.5 hours:

6 Day Total Estimated Flight Cost = $51,400.00 US

If I had chosen commercial, the total "hurry-up and wait" time at airports would be about 16 hours.  Total inflight time around 21 hours.   After adding an additional 5 hours for the three layovers that makes 42 hours  total commercial travel time, necessitating a minimum of 10 days for the mission.  Of course, that assumes there are no flight cancellations.    I would save $34,047.00 US less four days extra living expenses.    But I would never get back those four days to enjoy life my way.    Maybe that is not important to everyone and that's ok.  But it's important to me.  And the cost gap between commercial and ownership diminishes as the number of passengers travelling together goes up.  But it's actually not about money.  It's about doing things the way you want.

Total Estimated Flight Cost Commercial = $17,353.00 US

If you are like me and value your time, well-being, and lifestyle, commercial is not a welcome prospect.  Especially if you value your health and wellness.   That leaves charter, jetcards, fractional, or outright jet ownership (AeroOne) as the only options.   Over the coming months we shall be analyzing these different options, comparing them and making recommendations in an effort to help you make informed choices.

This month, we compare the NetJet Global 7500 fractional program to AeroOne's Global Express co-ownership.   We also compare commercial, charter and AeroOne options for two popular city pair return trips: YVR to LHR and YVR to PHX.

Wishing you all safe and healthy travels and remember, business jets are not a luxury. They are a necessity for people like you and me.

Happy Flying.

NetJets Global 7500 v. AeroOne Global Express
Compare NetJet's 200 hour quarter share with AeroOne's 200 hour quarter Co-Ownership program.
  • AeroOne's Global Express is preowned but will look new inside and out.
  • The Global Express has only 600 nm less range than the latest 7500.
  • AeroOne's offering is 5 times less expensive to buy and only half the hourly rate.
  • With AeroOne, you actually own your jet, and you are not forced to sell after 5 years.  Not so with NetJets.
Both jets look virtually identical side by side.  Which option would you prefer? Please message us and let us know your thoughts.
Commercial / Charter / Netjets / AeroOne?

Traveling from YVR to LHR or YVR - SDL (Scottsdale), return? Curious about the difference in cost for you and your friends flying commercial, charter, Netjets (fractional), or with AeroOne (full ownership/co-ownership)?   We did the research and share the results below so you can make an informed decision.

YVR RUNWAY CLOSURE UPDATE

As you may be aware, YVR Runway 26R (one of two main runways) is being closed for an extended period of up to a year apparently on account of extensive repairs.   As such, starting immediately all aircraft movements will require departure and landing slots.   Currently there are 72 slots per hour allocated.   During the shut down slots will be reduced to 48 per hour.  Only 2 slots per hour will be allocated to general aviation (that's all private aircraft combined).

We expect charter will be most affected by this reduction.  AeroOne sits on the YVR Committee that oversees the slot process and extended service reduction.  We are continuing to monitor and will advocate for our owners.    We look forward to providing updates as things develop.
