Super Bowl LVIII saw 882 private jets swooping diehard football fans in and out of LAS like clockwork. A sight to behold. This year, jet charter took a back seat to co-owned aircraft.  Light jets dominated the FBOs. Activity among fractional operators posted the only gains in January. Part 91 (wholly owned private) dropped 6.7% and Part 135 (charter) was down 9.8%. Three of four aircraft categories posted double-digit percentage losses (Source: ARGUS). Whereas, the light jet market enjoyed a 14.7 percent uptick in sales volume.   

The move from charter to entry-level light jet co-ownership is smart and even cost-effective if flying as little as 40 hours per year. I can prove it. People are slowly waking up to this fact. Average charter hourly rates are still 21.4% higher than pre-pandemic. Guaranteed callout rates can now require up to 69.3-hour advance reservation, up from 23.2 hours in 2019. Peak day designations average up to 47.4 days per year compared to 22.8 days pre-Covid. This is what flying "on demand" looks like? Not so with AeroOne.

As for the airline experience, more and more airports are introducing biometric scanning technology. Welcome to 1984. Big Brother is only too eager to track your every movement because they care about you. A lot. (The article says it all?) Oh, and Air Canada notched the worst on-time performance among the large airlines in North America in 2023, according to a new report. Roughly 140,000 Air Canada flights rolled up to the gate late — at least 15 minutes late compared with the scheduled arrival time. What is your time worth?
