20 years ago when I launched Genex Capital a very special and wise mentor of mine cautioned me in her distinct Lithuanian accent, "Roger always think pain-killer and not vitamin". What she meant was focus your efforts on things people need rather than what is "nice to have". $1.2 billion in transactions later, Genex continues to thrive because of its unwavering commitment to this principle.
Yesterday when Jellycat Jack and I hopped on over to Calgary to visit another client I was reminded again of these words of wisdom. I bought Ivana in 2020 to avoid the pain of pandemic travel restrictions. She provided a complete antidote. When the restrictions were lifted other travel challenges ensued--reduced airline schedules and capacity, higher ticket prices, enhanced security measures and queues, cancelled flights ...on and on. So I decided to keep the jet and start AeroOne to help others who want all the advantages of full private ownership but who wouldn't normally need a whole plane and crew. Our target client also understands the grossly inflated costs of fractional programs. So here we are.
Back to yesterday's Calgary trip...We departed at 10am Vancouver time, hosted lunch downtown Calgary and were home again safe and sound by 3:30pm local time. As I write this, ole Jellycat Jack would probably still be schlepping it over the Rockies had he not hitched a ride with me.

Cross-border travel can be tricky when flying commercial as well as charter. Not so with AeroOne.

2. U.S. to Canada: Car -> jet -> landing -> car with call in to CanPass. Seldom personal contact. Total customs time usually 0 min.

A friend's Air Canada flight was 6 hours late for my 60th birthday.

My cousin flew Air Canada Signature Class for my birthday party. The cost was approximately $6,500.00 return ($3,250.00 each way.) On the eve of departure he received the following email from Air Canada:
We responded by asking Air Canada what compensation they were going to provide.

Dear Dr. Proctor,
Thank you for contacting us regarding your recent travel.
One of Air Canada's catering providers, Gate Gourmet is experiencing a labour disruption at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
This labour disruption means we may not be able to offer our typical food and beverage selection during the flight.
We know that food and beverage service is an important part of your in-flight experience, and we're very sorry for any inconvenience this external labour disruption has caused.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer any compensation as this is beyond our control.
Thank you for allowing us this opportunity to review and respond to your concerns. We hope your future travels with Air Canada will be to your complete satisfaction.

Another friend missed my birthday party entirely due to his Air Canada flight being cancelled not once, not twice, but three times due to mechanical issues, arriving over 9 hours late.

Air Canada pilots declare PAN PAN on two separate occasions in April forcing unscheduled emergency landings in each case due to serious mechanical issues with flaps and a rear stabilizer, respectively.
Is this the new normal for commercial air travel? In our January Newsletter I predicted an impending deterioration of commercial airline service and the reasons therefor. This is how it begins. I know this because it happened to me when I lived in South Africa. SAA has never fully recovered.
